Transforming the business Digitally, does that count?

One Digital Transformation doesn’t mean the same to another

It comes to my mind that some clients always ask for a “Digital Transformation” Project. The fact that it doesn’t mean anything as anything leveraging technology could also mean digital transformation.

In the article, I am sharing some views and speculations on Digital Transformation as it is as unclear to you and me as well.

Why Needing the Digital Transformation?

In the last couple of years throughout the Pandemic, we see many ups and downs in businesses. Companies are forced to change due to the fact that meeting offices have been increasingly difficult. Business Continuity Plan (BCP) is no longer a document stored inside the archive.

The situation is dire and businesses are imminently threatened to run out of business if they didn’t change their original ways of work. Imagine no one is able to work for 3 straight months, does that sound serious enough to make a change?

What is Digital Transformation?

Digital Transformation just simply means you have recently changed a business process from using some old/traditional (Usually non-efficient) to using technology to solve it.

1. From a small project like using Google form to perform data entry.

2. To a big project like running a bank using smart contracts and blockchain.

Both cases are Digital Transformation.

So what does it mean when someone said Digital Transformation?

Whenever I heard of it, the first thing that came into my mind is the person possibly not sure what he wants to do.

If there is something you want to do about it and change, you probably will directly say

“I need to do a better job in data visualization”

“I need to do something about the payment system to catchup the market’s demand”
