What It Means by Mentorship Is to Challenge Your Thought process
Challenge Perceptive is a key to personal growth
--
I am always intrigued by the term “Mentorship”. I always relate Mentorship as a power word associated with “Growth” and “Productivity”.
I was partly mistaken as to its not what I expected as “Learn and take others’ experiences as mine”.
Turns out it's all about perspective.
The only Pre-requisites required, Empathy and Humility
Towards being a mentor or mentee, it's never about whos better or worse. It's about whos able to “communicate properly” and “be on the same page”.
Empathy and Humility are the keys to getting aligned with others.
Imagine a heated conversation. What are your thoughts going on,
- Rather than arguing with others on the facts of the arguments, try to think of the emotional triggers behind them.
- What do you want to get out of this conversation?
When there is an argument, it shows a difference in perception. One of the biggest reasons for having a mentor/mentee relationship is to
“Look at things differently, shared a different lenses in a respectable manner”
If we can’t get into others perspective and go through the thought process, what is the meaning of mentorship?
Its not as easy as it sounds
By reading till here, you might wonder those are simple facts and easy to start with. As recently, I closed up one of my longest mentorship relationship. I am nothing but grateful I have such a disastrous and mind-blowing experience.
Being as empathetic and humble on how other deals with matter might be as not easy as it sounds like.
It all start and sound wonderfully
I remember I met my mentor in a business occasion and I have learned so much from the World that I was never in (As they are managing directors and founders on businesses). The culture and how the other “Founders” behave and think moving on.
